The 2008 CFR Junior Presentation night took place on the 19th September at the Cleator Moor Celtic Clubhouse. Harry and Mary Jarrett were welcomed as guests of honor to present the awards. The large turnout enjoyed the buffet and awards ceremony, serving as the perfect end to a fantastic season with much hard work put in by all involved. First the championship results:

U8 Girls:

This Category only had four girls in it with 3 of them only running one race, if you look at the race results they are all capable of a great things and we look forward to seeing them running more races next season. In 3rd place was Rachel Kellet followed by Iona Smith and Millie Park, both taking 2nd place, Elsa Whelan was the 2008 U8 Girls Champion.

U8 Boys:

This Category had five runners completing 4 or more races with two new members Eughan Simpson and Joseph Dugdale showing some real potential. In 7th place was Joseph Dugdale, 6th place Eughan Simpson, 5th place was taken by Harry Lamb, 4th by Ethan Crow, 3rd by Alex Crow, 2nd followed taken by Zac Anderson, 2008 U8 Boys Champion was Robert Farrar.

U10 Girls:

You only have to have a look at the results for this category to see how close this contest has been. 4 girls running 4 or more races with some cracking tussles and I’m delighted to see all 4 here tonight, there’s some real camaraderie in this group. Andrea Kellet took 4th place followed by Cerys Atkinson in 3rd, Bramble Park took 2nd while Niamh Hedley was the 2008 U10 Girls Champion.

U10 Boys:

This group was really tight with some nail biting finishes during the season. 4 runners completed 4 or more races with a further 2 finishing 3 races. The top two were nip and tuck all season. 7th place was taken by Finlay Grove, Joseph Atkinson took 6th while Dale Atkinson came 5th, Connor McAleavey was 4th, Kieran Riley was 3rd and Oliver Dawson snapped up 2nd place, David King was the 2008 U10 Boys Champion.

U12 Girls:

Another strong category, both the top two have had 2 or more wins with some excellent racing from the whole group, there’s some real nice friendships growing with these young ladies too. 3 out of the 4 girls completed 4 or more races. Charlotte Nichol took 4th place with Molly McAleavey taking 3rd, Madeline Crow took 2nd place with Lucy Whelan becoming 2008 U12 Girls Champion.

U12 Boys:

This category has been dominated this year with the winner running all 7 races, finishing first in them all. 3 out of the 6 finishing 4 or more races with some real potential with the others. 6th place was taken by Louis Grove, 5th by Issac Travis and 4th by Tom Norman. Sam Farrar was placed 3rd and Joseph Smith 2nd, Tom Wright took the 2008 U12 Boys Championship.

U14 Girls:

Only two girls in this category but we’ve seen some fine racing. Both girls very strong and determined but that’s what makes great champions. Sian Riley was runner up with Alice Rea taking the 2008 U14 Girls Championship.

U14 Boys:

Probably the strongest category within the championship with 6 out of the 8 runners completing 4 or more races and the top 2 completing all 7. This really did go down to the wire with the last race of the season on flat fell being the decider. Jonathan Norman took 7th spot with Robin Whelan taking 6th, Jack Riley was 5th, James Whelan 4th, William King 3rd, Thomas King snapped up 2nd but Nathan Thompson took the 2008 U14 Boys Championship.

U16 Girls:

We only had one U16 girl this season and she only ran one race, so we didn’t have a championship as such.

U16 Boys:

This has been a difficult season for these four lads as they have been studying for their GCSE’s as well as fit in the Club championship. Simon Byers won the first race of the season and hasn’t raced since. Jamie Riley was frought with injury pulling his groin playing Football for the Celtic, then breaking his foot again playing football. It was a two horse race this one between Marc Brown and Duncan Eastoe (or “Big Dunc” as he is affectionately known). Jamie Riley took 4th place, Simon Byers 3rd while Duncan Eastoe took 2nd, Marc Brown took the 2008 U16 Boys Championship.

The special awards were presented next:

Girls one to watch: Bramble Park

Boys one to watch: Thomas King

Most improved: Madeline Crow

Most Promising: Tom Wright

Personality of the year: Ethan Crow

Clubman of the year: for all his work as the new CFR web site administrator, Duncan Eastoe

Next some thank you's were in order, the training sessions would be very difficult without the massive amount of help from Brian Thompson and Mike Simpson.

Races can’t take place without the registrations, I’d like to thank my wife Denise and sister in law Anne.

I’d like to thank all the parent helpers and marshals that help me out on race days, and the flag collectors at the end, give yourselves a big round of applause.

On behalf of Brian, Mike and myself we’d like to thank the kids and the kids taxi drivers for your commitment throughout the year, you all work very hard but the rewards are now coming. Keep up the great work on the fells and I’m certain there is enough potential out there to make some English and British champions following in Harry’s footsteps.

A final thank you to Harry and Mary, for joining us.
