This year’s Latterbarrow Loop Race was put back a week hoping to perhaps enjoy a warmer day. It turned out quite the opposite with really strong cold winds which made it difficult for the juniors and for the first time I can remember we were unable to put the tent up. To make matters worse it started to rain 10 mins before the senior race started and then half way round we had heavy hail stones. This I hope contributed to a smaller field than usual. Ironically once the race was over the rain stopped and the wind dropped. Despite all this I for one enjoyed being able to complete a race. Alan Bowness who has started racing again this year showed how strong and fast he still is, after running too the event he won very convincingly before running back home. Martin Amor had another strong run to finish 2nd while Simon Hunter who as just turned V40 finished 3rd. The outstanding run of the day was by Irvine’s son Darren Block who raced well as a junior CFR member but as played rugby league at a high level for the past 10 years and only been running for a few months after being side lined from rugby with a nasty knee injury. I hope we see more of Darren. The river man and belle trophies for the first over the beck after the start were won by Gavin Pattinson and Kate Beaty. Gavin paid for this fast start by slowing down to finish 7th.
Everyone who attended the presentation received a prize with tea, coffee, soup and cakes supplied this was good value entry fee. Thanks to those who donated prizes. Once again I had great support on the day with Irvine, Trevor, Jackie and Sean Rush marshalling in some awful conditions. Jim Davis and Mike Litt on time keeping and presentation. Jenny Morgan and Mary on registration and food. A big thanks to you all and hopefully we must get a better day nest year. All the profits from the race will go to Bob Riley for the juniors
