Just two short weeks after their last championship race the CFR Juniors returned for their 5th, the classic Latterbarrow Loop. The race took place last Saturday on yet another sunny day which provided great contrast to last years hail storm. With three races left of the 2010 championship there is still everything to play for. All courses involved the 335m summit of Swarth Fell which provided a good challenge for the runners.
The U8s race was first off at 12:00am, Olivia Mason won the girls race in 4:46 followed by Abigail Smith in 5:44, Anna Mason in 6:05 and Alex Walker in 6:34. Olivia Fearon and Millie Ross, unattached, both finished in a well run 6:46 and 7:38 respectively. They were closely followed by Louisa Graham in 7:39 and Cerys Simpson in a well run 7:42. First U8 boy was Mathew Egglestone in a time of 5:42 followed by Eughan Simpson in 6:30 and Kyle Anderson in a well run 7:10.
In the U10s, Niamh Hunter won the girls race, and only championship points, in 5:45. Nathan Smith was first U10 boy returning in a time of 4:22 followed by Robert Farrar in 4:40, Joseph Dugdale in 4:44, Zac Anderson in 4:45 and closely by Samuel Graham in 5:06. Abe Ross, unattached, and Thomas Adams finished in a well earned 5:22 and 5:43 respectively.
U12s were next off the line, Niamh Hedley was first back for the girls in 9:10 followed by Isabell Ross, unattached, in 11:52 and closely by Ruth Jennings, also unattached, in 11:53. Oliver Dawson was the first U12 boy in a time of 7:49 followed by Kieran Riley in 9:29 and Dale Atkinson in a well run time of 9:42.
In the U14 girls race Ellen Regan earned 12 points by bringing the girls race home in a time of 9:32. Sam Johnstone of Ellenborough was first U14 boy in a time of 7:00 followed by Tom Wright in 7:12 and Joseph Smith in 8:39. Cieran Simpson and Philip Jennings, unattached, quickly followed in times of 9:40 and 9:41 respectively.
First runner back in U16 girls race was Hannah Bethwaite, of Ellenborough, in a time of 10:36 followed by Alice Rea who took full championship points in 12:47. In the boys race Billy Edmondson, of Ellenborough, won in a time of 9:41 followed by CFR winner Jack Taylor in a well run 11:55.
The U18s followed the 2.4 mile senior course over Latterbarrow. Duncan Eastoe won (6th overall) in a time of 26:31 followed quickly by Marc Brown (7th overall) in 26:46 and Jamie Riley (17th overall) in a good time of 31:00.
The next CFR Junior Championship race is Godsworth on Saturday 5th June, first race is off at 11:00 am from the Ennerdale Show Field, near Kirkland. Full details can be found here
