The Flat Fell race has been rescheduled for March 27th
The 3rd CFR Junior race of 2010, Flat Fell, originally scheduled for March 6th has been postponed until further notice.
Young Wilf "Boo" Grove sadly passed away earlier in the week after a long illness. As a mark of respect to Wilf and his family, race organiser Bob Riley has postponed the race until further notice, the website will be updated with the new date once it is available.
The juniors were lucky, as for the second week in a row, they were afforded warm, bright sunshine for their 2nd championship race, the Jarrett Jaunt. Lower numbers than usual, due to a clash with the schools cross country did not deter the 25 youngsters who challenged the northern flanks of Dent Fell.
The U8s race kicked off the proceedings following the fully flagged course at 12:00 pm, Millie Park won the girls race in 6:54 followed by Rachel Kellet in 8:49 and Molly Robinson in a time of 9:20. Alex Walker and Louisa Graham both followed very closely in 9:22 and 9:24 respectively. First U8 boy was Mathew Egglestone in a time of 8:08 followed by Barnaby Walkinshaw, unattached, in 8:47 and Harry Lamb in a well run 9:33.
The setting for the 1st CFR Junior championship race of 2010, Blake's Heaven, which took place last Saturday, was an unusually bright and sunny Lamplugh. This provided an awesome backdrop for the forty or so youngsters who turned out for this fantastic season opener. The course involved laps of the undulating lower slopes of Owsen Fell with the U16s tackling the summit and the U18s following the tough senior course.
Just to let you all know what is happening over the next few weeks. Training this Saturday the 23rd Jan will be on the sports field again at Wath Brow. The following week the 30th is the first Club Championship race at Blake. Usual categories U8's and U10's first off at 11 am, U12's and U14's next followed by the U16's. The week after that the 6th Feb is Harry's race and our second championship race. The 13th Feb we will resume training on Flat fell again.
Training will return to Flat Fell on Saturday 13th February
Until further notice Junior training will be at the Cleator Moor sports field, this is due to the continued cold weather and dangerous conditions of the usual training area
Training will be, this Saturday 16th Jan, on the sports field at Wath Brow. I have tried to get up to the White house tonight and got stuck, had to roll all the way to the bottom in reverse. I then went to the sports field. The Red beck road still has its road closure up but it is fairly safe to walk down tonight and it is forecast to get milder. The field is still a bit hard but again this should get softer by Saturday.
Bob Riley
Despite the Carlisle Cross country being postponed, there will be no training on this Saturday. This is due to the treacherous road conditions, stay tuned to the website and message board for updates
Due to the weather conditions Junior Training will take place at the Cleator Moor Sports field on Saturday 2nd. Training starts at the usual time of 10:30am
