There were 12 races in the 2004 CFR Club Championship, 4 short, 4 medium and 4 long. To qualify for a prize members must have completed at least 6 races, not more than 3 from any one category. You could therefore qualify without completing a long category race.

Well that’s it – another championship completed. It didn’t seem that long ago since I was sitting on the top of Blake Fell waving everyone through the checkpoint.

100 of you competed in at least one of the races this year compared to 80 in 2003 and there were 33 who completed six races compared to 24 last year.

Congratulations to our new champions – John Hunt retains his overall club title with Pete Crompton retaining the ‘Cumberland Cup’ for most points and his V45 title. Brian Thompson V40, Harry Jarrett V50, Mike Litt V55, John Ely V60 are also class winners as is Don Rigg V70 who marks his return to the fells by becoming the first recipient of the ‘Harry Catlow Trophy’.

For the girls Kate Beaty retains her Ladies title with Lindsay Buck, Barbara Haywood and Rhiannan Jones providing the competition this year. Kate and Lindsay also took the Lady Vet places with Lindsay scoring most overall points.

It’s been four years since I took on this role so if anyone out there would like to take it on for next year I’m only too happy to give them the opportunity.

I hope that you enjoyed the races selected by the team back in January – if you want to influence next year’s series – shout up at the AGM on 11 December and be part of the 2005 selection committee.
